Permanent Lip Color

Natural/Subtle/Dramatic

Lips are a great procedure for someone who wants to make their lips seem fuller or for changing the shape of ones lips. Lips can be done as a lip liner to define the shape, or with both liner and shading. This is good for a person with thin lips since the shading allows the person’s lighter color to act like a highlight once the procedure is healed; thus giving fuller look. Full color on a person with thin lips will make the lips look even thinner. Lip liner and full color are good for definition and for a person who has larger lips or wants dramatic color.

What do expect at your lips appointment

Please give yourself plenty of time especially for the first appointment. Arrive 30-45 minutes early for pre -numbing of the area and to fill out paperwork. If we have not had a consultation bring the lip color that you like to give me an idea of what you are interested in. Please note it is always good to refer to the pre-procedure health form and healing instructions available in each service section, to make sure you are in good health and the healing of the procedure does not interfere with prior plans.

Once your color is chosen, then we will draw on the procedure with lip liner pencil. The lips are the most time consuming of all the procedures it will take an hour or two depending on what you are having done. The first pass may be the most uncomfortable; numbing will be applied during the procedure to make it as comfortable as possible.

When you are done, the lips will be swollen and the color will be very bright; rest assured this swelling and the color will go down. Because there is such a dramatic difference in how you look afterwards, it is always good to warn your partner or spouse, that it will look more natural when it is healed.

When you leave you will have a thin layer of Vaseline on your lips and will be given verbal and written aftercare instructions. We will schedule the second appointment time for six weeks later to ensure proper healing time. It will take a full six weeks to see the true healed color; some of the color will initially hide and then come back. This second appointment is for us to make the lips darker if the client wishes.

Lips Procedure Healing

Lips will be swollen when you leave. When you get home, put a cold compress on the lips, 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off, for the first several hours.

Put Vaseline and tissue barrier to protect the lips from the moisture of the bag of ice. The lips will be very dry for two weeks. Keep them moist by applying Vaseline with a Q-tip. There will be flaking. This is the excess pigment and dead skin coming off, which will be the same color of the pigment. This is normal. Please do not remove it by washing, scratching, or peeling, let it fall off naturally.

Lips will fade up to 60% lighter then when first done. It takes a full 6 weeks for healed color to appear. It can hide for as long as these 6 weeks before resurfacing. Very moist lipstick or lip gloss can be worn over the Vaseline during the healing process, after the first 3 days.

Once healing is done, sunscreen will be needed to reduce fading and protect from increased photosensitivity. For two weeks wipe your lips gently with napkin while eating and drink through a straw (even hot drinks).

If you have history of canker sores and/or fever blisters on the lips, chin, or nose you will require a prescription of 24 capsules of 500mg of Valtrex from your physicians (12 for initial procedure and 12 for follow-up procedure) unless otherwise prescribed.

Avoid While Healing

– Teeth bleaching
– Direct sun, tanning beds on pigmented area forever.
– Water or liquids for 2 weeks

Long Term Care for All Procedures

After healing use sunscreen daily to help prevent fading. If you donate blood, it is the Red Cross policy that you wait one year after a procedure.

IF you are planning on a chemical peel, MRI, or other medical procedure, please tell them you have had iron-oxide permanent cosmetics.

If you are planning on laser removal on your upper lip or Photo Facial with an IPL, you must tell your laser specialist that you have had permanent cosmetics so this area can be avoided by laser. Both ablative and non-ablative lasers may cause pigment to turn black.
