Scar Camouflage or Decorative tattoo.

Which is better for you? Only you can decide, but I am able to offer you both options. If you have a scar that you would like to blend to your skin tone, scar camouflage might be a good choice for you. There are criteria to keep in mind. First the scar must be at least a year old. This is because it takes at least this length of time for the scar to have gone through it changes as it heals. Secondly if the scar is reddish, purple, or pink scar camouflage might not be a good option. Flesh color ( your skin tone) can not be tattooed over something darker in color. The best case is a scar that is white or lighter them your skin tone. At this point the flesh color pigment can be matched to your skin tone. If you have a raised scar the needling from the procedure of scar camouflage can help flatten the scar. Another very important thing to keep in mind is that the pigment added to the white part of your scar will not darken with the rest of your skin if you get sun exposure. It is best to have a procedure to done when your at your lightest.

Scar camouflage can be used on clients with injury or medical scars, vitiligo, burns, or some stretch marks.

If you think you that you would like a decorative tattoo there a few things to keep in mind when tattooing over scar tissue. First once again the scar must be at least a year old. When thinking of a tattoo think of the subject matter you want , sometime what we want will not work . When thinking of what will work keep in mind that purpose is draw the eye away from the scar or cover it. For instance if the scar is a straight line and you would like a vine or thin decorative piece make sure it is larger then the scar area not just right on top of it. It is best to work larger then the scar as to draw away from the difference in texture. Also thin lines might blow out over scar tissue and color might not hold in areas where there is scar tissue. Some touch up might be needed, and special care will have to be taken when tattooing. So when approaching the project of covering a scar with a tattoo keep an open mind, it is a great way to heal and feel better about the way things look, but it will take extra thought.
